However, many are not taking out gadget cover

New research from UK travel insurance provider Staysure has found that 48 per cent of British holidaymakers are travelling abroad with more than £500 worth of technology per person.

In fact, nearly 18 per cent have taken more than £1,000 worth of technology abroad.

Nearly half (45 per cent) of the 2,000 respondents questioned in the online poll claim to be travelling with three or four gadgets per person, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, and cameras.

Mobile phones were the biggest priority, with only 11 per cent saying they wouldn’t take a phone on holiday, while 61 per cent said they couldn’t travel without any technology at all.

As Brits view technology as an essential part of any holiday, 53 per cent of respondents said they would feel ‘annoyed’ if they damaged a gadget on holiday. Twenty per cent of Brits have lost or damaged a gadget while overseas and 53 per cent of respondents didn’t see gadget cover as a priority, rising to 64 per cent among the over-55s.

The report also revealed that 28 per cent are more worried about losing their phone than their purse or wallet (13 per cent), with nearly four per cent saying they would rather lose their luggage than their mobile.

Staysure’s Chief Marketing Officer, Brad May, said: “It’s not surprising the research shows that our tech plays such a big part in our holidays – we all use technology one way or another in our everyday lives, so why should holidays be any different? Many of us just couldn’t live without gadgets, and even though they are so essential, we simply underestimate how much we depend upon them.

“Damaging or losing a gadget on holiday can be frustrating – that’s why our new Signature Travel Insurance policy offers customers up to £2,000 per person for gadgets as standard, including cover for liquid and accidental damage, loss and theft.”
