New emergency department for Ulster Hospital
The Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, Northern Ireland, has opened a new emergency department as part of its £280 million redevelopment plan
The old emergency department that it replaces will now be used as a minor injury unit. The opening of the new department represents the culmination of over a decade of work – planning for the new facility began in 2011.
The South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust, which runs the hospital, said that the new department is expected to improve both care for patients and working conditions for its staff.
The new department features advanced resuscitation facilities, treatment cubicles, paediatric cubicles, triage facilities, a large waiting room, and a dedicated ambulance arrivals area.
Last month, UAE-based healthcare provider PureHealth announced that it would purchase UK private hospital operator Circle Health Group for US$1.2 billion.
