One dead and many injured on Singapore Airlines flight
Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 plunged several thousand feet after hitting a pocket of severe turbulence over the Indian Ocean
The incident, reported by the airline on 21 May, occurred onboard a flight from London’s Heathrow Airport bound for Singapore.
The flight, which was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, plunged around 6,000 feet in the span of around three minutes while flying over the Indian Ocean, near Myanmar.
The Boeing 777-300ER then managed to stabilise its altitude at 31,000 feet, before being diverted to and landing in Bangkok, Thailand, approximately half an hour later.
The man who died was a 73-year-old British citizen who had been setting off with his wife on a tour around Asia.
Bangkok’s Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital reported that 71 people from the flight were being treated there, including six who were severely injured.
