Dubai International Airport urges passengers to stay away after record rainfall
The UAE has been left with large areas of deep flood waters after suffering its heaviest rainfall ever recorded
Dubai Airport, the world’s busiest for international flights, posted on X: “We advise you NOT to come to the airport, unless absolutely necessary. Flights continue to be delayed and diverted. Please check your flight status directly with your airline.”
As well as the airport, many of the nearby roads became virtually impassable after the emirate experienced more than double the rainfall it ordinarily gets in an entire year.
Flights from Dubai International Airport have been grounded, while arrivals have been diverted, with many airlines impacted by displaced crew.
A Dubai Airports spokesperson said: “We strongly urge guests to check directly with their airline to obtain the latest information on the status of their flight before coming to the airport and allow significant extra travel time.”
This morning, flights from London to Dubai were cancelled. According to TravelMole, some flights have been diverted to Abu Dhabi.
The spokesperson added: “We’re continuously working hard with our emergency response teams and service partners to restore normal operations as quickly as possible and provide support for guests … Recovery will take some time.”
