British tourists kidnapped in DRC
According to the UK Foreign Office, two British tourists have been kidnapped in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
UK news sources have reported that during a visit to the Virunga National Park, the tourists’ vehicle was ambushed by gunmen who killed a park ranger and seized the driver.
The Foreign Office said it is in close contact with the DRC authorities. It is advising against all but essential travel to Goma and has urged British travellers not to go beyond the city. It also said that tourists are vulnerable if travelling without escorted transport in the eastern part of the country, and the ‘risk of kidnap or injury as a result of armed or criminal activity remains high’.
