Case Study: From Lagos to Cairo
Medjet Medical Assistance recently completed a difficult repatriation from Lagos, Nigeria, to Cairo, Egypt. Our alarm centre received a medevac request from a client regarding an 81-year-old female patient who had been hypertensive for over 40 years, with poor drugs compliance, and who had previously experienced a stoke. The details of the case were then passed on to our medical team.
After evaluating the medical details of the patient, the medical team awarded fit to fly clearance. Flight preparations began immediately after client approval.
The patient was carefully transferred from the hospital they had been in, to the aircraft, and was successfully loaded onboard. However, despite the best efforts of our experienced team, the patient’s medical condition began to deteriorate at this point.
It was at this time that our medical team took the difficult decision to transport the patient at ground level to minimise the effects of air pressure changes on the patient’s medical condition. After this important decision was made, the patient was transported carefully to their destination in Cairo, where her condition began to improve.
